Our Class is Awesome!
Below is a picture of all the goodies that were donated to fill stockings. Originally I only asked for enough stuff to fill 2 stockings, but as you can see, we have enough for many more than that! Thanks so much for being so generous during this holiday season!

Math News
We have been multiplying multi-digit numbers this week. We have learned to use the standard algorithm (which is what we all learned how to do in elementary school) and we also know how to use the expanded algorithm. We also call this partial-products. We will test on Topic 6 next Thursday. We will spend Wednesday reviewing.
Don’t forget that you can access your child’s text book at www.pearsonsuccessnet.com Their username is their school number id and the password is richland2.

Science News
This week in science, we continued learning about constellations as well as why we have seasons. We did a Mystery Science lesson where we had to be detectives and use clues in a picture to see if we could guess what season the picture was taken. Some of the clues were the timestamp on the picture, the length of the shadow, clothes the people were wearing, and the way the trees looked. We have good detectives in our classroom and they were able to get most of them right. We will have a science test next Friday before the holidays. More information will be given to the students next week and they will know exactly what to study.

We have learned about the constellations this past week as well as how the Earth revolves around the sun as it rotates daily. We have completed a few activities to show this with “Mystery Science.” I have attached the videos to our Google Classroom. Your child should be able to access them if they want to review them again or if they missed class that day.
Moon calendars are due next week on December 8th. If your child has missed a night, they can go to the following website to see the moon for that night. http://www.moonconnection.com/moon_phases_calendar.phtml

Message from Nurse Allen
As part of the eight components of school health, School Nurses conduct periodic vision, dental, hearing, blood pressure, and other screenings as recommended by SC DHEC, and as needed as part of the nurse's assessment during a health room visit. These screenings are important in early detection of hearing or vision difficulties that may impact teaching and learning. Many times a student is not even aware he/she is having difficulty seeing the board, reading, or hearing classroom instructions.
Most students at Bethel Hanberry Elementary have been screened for the 2015-2016 year. Please contact the school nurse, Kathy Allen, RN at 691-6880 x 3011 if you have a question or a concern regarding your child's results, or if you need assistance taking your child to the eye doctor or dentist. Our goal is to work in collaboration with parents, teachers and children to help children stay healthy so they can learn.
