Math News
I sent all graded papers home this past week. Thank you for quickly returning the papers letting me know you had reviewed them. I will try and do this about once every two weeks so that you can see your child’s work and not just the grade in PowerSchool.
Don’t forget to check out the Google Classroom “live” calendar. It is up to date with all tests and/or assignments. Just in case you’re having trouble getting into Google classroom, try this link to see the calendar.
Please have your students complete at least 5 ALEKS topics each week. If your child forgets their ALEKS username and password, please let me know. It is taped in their math journal, but I can look it up and send it by email to you so you can have it too. I am allowing them to get a maximum of 10 bonus points each week. This means that they can do 15 topics a week and receive their 5 points for a 100% and then 10 points for extra credit.

Next week, we will continue to focus our attention on Main Idea and Theme. The theme is the lesson or message that the writer wants to get across in his or her story that can be applied to our everyday life - we call it THE MEssage (think about how it can be applied to me). As we learn about theme, we will read a few familiar pieces of literature - folktales such as The Ant and the Grasshopper, King Midas and the Golden Touch, and The Boy Who Cried Wolf just to name a few.

The Ed. Foundation recently granted Mrs. Benson with some money to provide more flexible seats for her classroom. The students are loving the new seats. We are very grateful to the Ed. Foundation for helping our classroom. Below is a picture of students enjoying some of our new seats.

Math News
I extended the math stations due date until next Friday. This will have given every one 4 weeks to complete their 10 stations in class. Please check with your child and see if they are close to finishing so that everyone will be ready to turn them in next Friday.
All graded Math 4 Today quizzes and unit tests will be sent home next week for you to keep. Although the grades have been in the gradebook for you to see, I would like you to look through them and see any comments I might have made for the student. I will have a paper attached to the front of the stack of papers for you to sign and return so that I know you have seen them all. Please return this paper within 2 days of my sending them home. I will try and have them ready to come home on Tuesday.
The Google Classroom “live” calendar is up to date with all tests and/or assignments.

It is taped in their math journal, but I can look it up and send it by email to you so you can have it too. I will be allowing them to get a maximum of 10 bonus points each week starting next week. We will be working on our severe weather reports next week. Students will be given a guide to use on Monday for these reports. I have attached a version of this below so that you can see what students are completing. This will count as a major grade and be due no later than Friday. Students will be given time in class each day next week to work, but if by Wednesday they are not close enough to a finished project, they may need to work at home. I will send an email out on Wednesday to those who need to work some at home.
We will also be finishing up our weather unit the last week of the month and taking a weather unit test on Thursday, November 1st. A study guide will be given by the end of next week so that students can prepare. We will review for several days before the test.

This week students were assessed online via Quizizz on our Treasures selection Mystic Horse and understanding of homophones (which were encountered in the text) - and I must say that most did very well! Grades are already in PowerSchool and I am currently finishing up scores for the text-dependent questions students answered in Google Classroom.
Next week, we will focus our attention on Main Idea and Theme and being able to decipher between the two - which are very different. The main idea is what the text is mostly about. The theme is the lesson or message that the writer wants to get across in his or her story that can be applied to our everyday life - we call it THE MEssage (think about how it can be applied to me). RAP Questions did not go home this week due to us being out because of weather; however, they will go out next week. RAP questions are grade boosters and in order to receive full credit, they should be answered in complete sentences. Students can use any social studies resource to complete this assignment.
