ELA News
This week we talked about the foundations of writing - Understanding Sentences! Students learned that in order to write a paragraph and eventually lengthy stories or essays, they must first know how to write a proper sentence which includes a subject and a predicate. Next week, we will discuss the different sentence forms (simple, compound, and complex). Next week, we will also begin reading another selection from the Treasures textbook and focus on determining theme in literary texts.
What you can do at home to help your child be successful:
- Encourage Nightly Reading
- Discuss What Your Child is Reading and help them complete weekly Reading Logs which are due each Friday
- Find Reasons to Write outside of the Classroom
- Play Educational Games/Watch Educational Videos - LEXIA can be used at home
Social Studies News
Benson Homeroom - Map Skills Quiz 1 Monday (Students were suppose to take this week but due to MAP testing, they didn’t get the chance. In order to prepare, students can log on to the Social Studies Google Classroom to view the video and maps. They may also use the handout completed in class for classwork. If they do not have, they need to know how to label a compass rose, utilize intermediate directions, and identify continents on a world map)
Next Week’s Indicators 4-1.1 Summarize the spread of Native American populations using the Land Bridge Theory. 4-1.2 Compare the everyday life, physical environment, and culture of the major Native American cultural groupings, including the Eastern Woodlands, the Plains, the Southwest, the Great Basin, and the Pacific Northwest.
*Refer to Google Classroom for presentations throughout the week. Students will be informed when they have posted. Students login to Google Classroom at home using their Gmail account. Additionally, parent Study Guides have been issued. If you did not attend Open House, most children were given a copy at school. If your child does not have one, please let me know so I can give to them on Monday.
