Benson’s Best
News from the 4th Grade

October 23, 2015

Math News

We will begin Topic 4 this week on addition and subtraction of whole numbers.  We will be learning different techniques to add and subtract including some mental math strategies.  We will most likely be taking a test on this topic on Wednesday, November 4th.

Starting Monday, November 2nd, I will be giving a grade for ALEKS each week.  Students will be expected, for now, to master 5 topics per week.  After a few weeks, we will start to add more topics a week.  Students can master these topics in class, or they can work on them at home using their login information.

Don’t forget that you can access your child’s text book at www.pearsonsuccessnet.com  Their username is their school number id and the password is richland2.

Science News

We finished working on our “Wild Weather” projects this week.  If your child has not turned in their report, it is due no later than Monday.  We will video any remaining reports on Monday so that we can share them later in the week as a class.  Remember this is worth 2 grades for this nine weeks which ends on Wednesday.

Fourth Grade News

We need your child to have headphones or ear buds in class everyday.  I have a few sets that I purchased from the dollar store that I can loan out, but sometimes there are more needs than I can meet.  They also need them every time we go to the computer lab.  Please make sure your child brings them to school everyday.

With school being cancelled last week, our end of the nine weeks has been backed up a few days. The end of the first nine weeks will now be October 28th and report cards will go home on November 5th.

Our Brattonsville field trip has been rescheduled for Tuesday, December 15th.  More information will come out closer to that date.

Mrs. Benson’s Homeroom News
The Bear Stomp will be on Friday during Related Arts.  It is also Spirit Day so please make sure your child comes to school in a BHE shirt.

Ending Thought
With the cancellations last week, we missed a couple of conferences.  If you have not met with Mrs. Cave and myself and would like to, please send one of us an email with a few times and dates that work for you. (We can also have conferences on the phone or via email if that will be easier for you.)  We will then get back with you a time.  You may e-mail me at sbenson@richland2.org  I have a new class blog that you can access anytime with information about what is going on in class.  Please visit it frequently.  You can also sign up for emails when the blog is updated.  This way you know important information once it is posted.  You can view the blog at:  http://mrsbensonsbest.blogspot.com

Thanks for sharing your children with me each day!

Mrs. Shannon Benson

Taping of Wild Weather Videos
