Math News

We tested on Unit 2 today.  We begin our next unit--multiplication and division on Monday.  If your child is absent or they simply take longer to complete their work, they can work at home.  The checklist is given to them in Google classroom and a paper copy is in their math and science folder.  They can watch the videos and take notes or do any of the online activities at home.  They can even get their paper and pencil activities that they do not complete in class and work on them at home, if needed.  When planning a math unit, I look at the activities that I have chosen for them to complete and factor in how many days it should take to complete them.  I then add a day or two extra to the schedule before giving a unit test.  Some students are taking far too long to complete an objective and falling behind.  Although it is not being assigned for homework, they may need to go and do more at home if they are falling behind.

Don’t forget that the homework packet is given the first day of the week and is due no later than Friday.  Students can also use ALEKS to practice at home if they would like.  They will need to get their username from me before they log in the first time.  This is a great computer program that helps to review all math concepts.

Science News

We did have a quiz this week on vocabulary words from our weather unit so far.  Next week we will track the weather each day and record the information in a weather log.  This information will then be taken and graphed at the end of the week.  We will also finish up lesson 2 and start lesson 3 on how clouds and precipitation form.

Your student should have practice worksheets in their reading notebooks for the skills being  covered.

Social Studies News
Next week in Social Studies we will wrap up our unit on Native Americans.  There will be a test on Wednesday.  Students can start reviewing the chart in their workbook to prepare for the test.  The next unit of study will be Explorers.
