Math News

This past week we enjoyed planning vacations and designing our very own zoo.  Students were able to work in groups and were very creative in their endeavors.  This next week we will continue with some fun projects to help us wind down the year.  We even are working on a book called “Math Curse” based on the book by Jon Scieszka.

In ELA  this week student made “Memory Books.” They had to follow directions to measure and create their masterpiece.  They also had to plan who they would give their booklet to.  Many of the students shared their books in class.  No two books were the same. They did a great job with this project.

Math News

We will continue to use ALEKS to expand our math knowledge.  We will also be working on a few math projects to use our math skills in real world problems.  One project we may do will be planning an imaginary family vacation.  The student will have to choose a place and figure out expenses while you are there.  Who knows, they may plan your next vacation. One project might be planning and designing their own zoo. They would get to decide what animals to have and draw up blueprints for the architect. Whichever project we choose for the last few weeks of school, we will have lots of fun exploring math in the real world.

Do you remember back around Spring Break when we created posters for the Richland County Conservation District?  We received word this week that our school received the “School Spirit Award”!  We had enough participation that our school has been recognized!  Thanks for all of you who signed permission forms for your child to participate.  We didn’t have any place winners for the posters we submitted, but I am still very proud of all of our participation.  You can find a list of winners at the following link:  http://rcgov.us/Government/Departments/Conservation/ConservationDistrict/ConservationDistrictNews/TabId/670/artmid/1228/articleid/969/Default.aspx
