Weekly News--August 30th

Mrs. Benson’s Math and Science News

August 31, 2019

Math News

We have had a great week learning about multiplication in math!  We have learned how to do fluency on our computer and ways to earn microwave popcorn as rewards for our multiplication.  We are learning procedures each day and hope that next week we will be able to focus more on our math lessons and less on procedures.

Please encourage your child to practice and know their basic multiplication facts.  This slowed us down a little this week and knowing the facts will help tremendously as we move along 4th grade.

Click here for an up to date math and science assignment calendar.  This calendar will be updated weekly as tests and projects are assigned.

Science News
Our first unit in science will be weather and climate.  We will be discussing weather instruments next week and hopefully creating some in our classroom.  We will also be keeping track of the weather over the course of the nine weeks. With a hurricane brewing in the ocean, please use this as an opportunity for your child to watch the weather at home and keep up with current events.

If you would like to order Spirit Wear from the BHE Spirit Store, you can print this form and send it in with your payment to the office.  They will get this to a PTO member who can fill the order and return it with your child.

Weekly News--June 6th

Thursday, June 6, 2019

I have enjoyed your students this year!  Thank you so much for sharing them with me!  I feel that they have grown so much over the year and I know they are ready for 5th grade.

If you are wanting to have some things for them to do to keep up with their math and reading skills over the summer have them work on the following:

  • ALEKS--they can work on ALEKS all throughout the summer--who knows--they might even finish the grade level they are working on.  If they finish a grade level and would like me to move them up to the next level, just email me and I will see if I can do that.
  • Lexia--they can still work on their Lexia skills over the summer.
  • Study Island--it is also available to them if they want to have some practice.  They might even be able to work on some 5th grade material too.
  • READ, READ, READ--I can't emphasize this enough.  If they will read over the summer, they will be more prepared when school starts in August.
Speaking of reading, remember, they can earn a free book with Barnes and Noble if they keep a reading log.  The link is here for the information.  They can also read for BHE's reading log and earn an ice cream sundae party next school year.

Have a fantastic summer and I hope to see you all stop by when school starts in August!  Have a safe summer!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Benson

Math and Science News
I can’t believe we only have one more week of school to go! We have had a great week working on our zoo project. Students presented their zoos to the class and I was very impressed with their creativity. They did a great job coming up with items to sell at their concessions stands and gift shops. They also designed t-shirts to sell as well as billboards and advertisements to let people know about their new zoo in town.

We also worked on some logic problems using our math skills and started our ABC book of math and science. Students will finish these next week and bring them home as a souvenir of 4th grade.
