All News

Students worked really hard this week on ELA and Math tests.  We are so proud of their hard work and taking their time answering their problems.  Only a few more days of school are left and we still have so much to do!  We have two more days of standardized testing next week.  We also have awards day  and our 4th grade ice cream celebration!  Please read below for more information on these calendar items.

Thanks to all who have turned in their library books on time.  Mrs. Benson’s class has returned 100% of their books and will be having a popsicle party with Mrs. Jeffers in the upcoming days.  Mrs. Browne’s class only has one more book to return so that they are at 100%.  Textbooks are being taken up Monday.  If your child has a Reading or Math textbook at home, please return on Monday so that they will not be charged for a missing book.

Fourth Grade News

We still have 2 tests to go!  Tuesday, May 23rd (Science) and Wednesday, May 24th (Social Studies) will be our last 2 days of standardized testing.  Please try not to schedule any appointments on these days so that students will be here for their scheduled test day.  Students perform better in their normal testing environment instead of a make-up testing environment. Please also make sure they have a really good breakfast.

4th Grade promotion ceremony will be on Thursday, May 25th at 1pm.  Students will be recognized for honor roll, perfect attendance, and club participation.  Emails will go out this weekend to individuals whose child will be receiving recognition since all students will not be recognized at that ceremony.  Of course, all are welcome to attend.

Friday, May 26th the 4th grade will be having an end of the year celebration.  We will be having ice cream sundaes and extra recess starting at about 1:00pm.

Monday, May 29th is Memorial Day--there will be no school.

Wednesday, May 31st and Thursday, June 1st are both early dismissal day.  We will be dismissing at 11:30am.  June 1st is the last day of school.

Math News

We have worked really hard this week on many review items!  If your child has any time over the weekend or even next week before the different test days, Study Island is a great program that will help them be more prepared for the standardized test.  I will not be giving out homework next week so that students can use their time to review, rest, and prepare for the testing days.  We have learned a lot this year and I hope that everyone will just do their best!

Science News

We had a quick overview of Sound this week and tested on it today.  Next week we will be doing some fun review games to cover everything we have studied in science this year.

Language Arts News.

This week students have been reviewing the writing process and how to respond to a writing prompt.  It has been a learning experience for all as they have learned to “stay on topic”.  This is a major problem for fourth graders.  Many want to elaborate instead of just answering the prompt.

Students also took a reading test on Monday about a story they finished reading.  Many did very well!  I was very proud of how many of them properly searched for the answers and were able to read the text to find their answers and not just “guess”.  We have been preparing for our reading test by focusing on finding evidence within the text for answers to questions.
Finally, students have been working on their fictional writing stories when time permits.  This has been a long process and hopefully they will remember.  Editing your own work is tedious!

This was the last week for spelling tests.  Due to testing the next two weeks, we will not have time to do word studies.  It is hard to believe we are almost done with this year!

Social Studies News

We have been working this week on Unit 7, chapters 3-5.   We are working on the Westward Expansion.  We will continue to work on Unit 7 for the next two weeks.  Please encourage your child to read their books at home and study each lesson as we go.  Thank you!

Fourth Grade News

State standardized testing will be on Tuesday, May 16th (Writing), Wednesday, May 17th (Reading), Thursday, May 18th (Math), Tuesday, May 23rd (Science), and Wednesday, May 24th (Social Studies).  Please try not to schedule any appointments on these days so that students will be here for their scheduled test day.  Students perform better in their normal testing environment instead of a make-up testing environment. Please also make sure they have a snack and a really good breakfast.

4th Grade promotion ceremony will be on Thursday, May 25th at 1pm.  Students will be recognized for honor roll, perfect attendance, and club participation.  I will send out emails closer to that time to individuals whose child will be receiving recognition since all students will not be recognized at that ceremony.  Of course, all are welcome to attend.
