Math News

We finished our Geometry unit this week and tested yesterday.  Those papers will go home next week.  We had a fun time with a symmetry art project today.  These projects will be displayed in the hall next week.  I will post a picture of the final wall display once it is in the hall.

We will begin our Fraction unit next week.  We won’t always be using the Pearson book for this unit.  We will be using the Zearn computer program and a lot of hands on activities in the class.  Please make sure your child keeps their math papers in their red folder so that they will not lose them since it is not going to always be work in their math workbook.

Don’t forget that you can access your child’s text book at www.pearsonsuccessnet.com  Their username is their school number id and the password is richland2.
Zearn username:  student number   Zearn password:  benson
Aleks username:  (ask your child)  Aleks password:  aleksmat

Science News

We had some amazing projects presented this week!  The students really learned their stuff and did a great job presenting their information to the class.  Next week we will begin learning about plants.

Language Arts News

The next reading we will read “A Walk in the Desert, an expository writing in Treasures.  The reading skills covered are summarizing the main idea using details.  Students will also complete an expository writing on “Why we need the Constitution.”

Reading logs are due on Wednesday. 5 points will be deducted from the grade for each day that the reading log is late unless the student is absent on the due date Students should have the reading logs in class everyday to show that they have completed reading homework.  Students are also learning how to determine the genre of the book that they are reading based on the details in the book.  Students cannot write just fiction or nonfiction as the genre.

Social Studies News
In Social Studies next week we will begin to look west to see how the United States grew. Students will learn about President Thomas Jefferson, the Louisiana Purchase and and the Lewis and Clark Expedition.  Students are also reading a historical fiction book on Daniel Boone to learn about pioneers.

Fourth Grade News

We will be taking the MAP tests this next week.  We are scheduled to take the ELA test on Tuesday morning after related arts and the Math test on Friday morning after related arts.  Please make sure your child is here and on time on those days.

PLEASE, PLEASE!  We need your child to have headphones or earbuds in class everyday. We use them every day.  They also need them every time we go to the computer lab.  Please make sure your child brings them to school everyday.

The school fundraiser began this week.  It will continue through March 15th.  As your child sells items, they can bring in the coupon with your signature and it will be redeemed for a “Space Buddy.”  They only have to sell 2 items to get their first buddy.  They will receive 1 space buddy for every 3 items they sell after the first two.  Money raised will go towards a memorial garden in honor of Mrs. Peake.  Money needs to be collected as they sell so that all money is turned in by the 15th.

Spring pictures will be on Thursday of next week.  Please make sure to bring your best smile!
