Math News

We will continue to use ALEKS to expand our math knowledge.  We will also be working on a few math projects to use our math skills in real world problems.  One project we may do will be planning an imaginary family vacation.  The student will have to choose a place and figure out expenses while you are there.  Who knows, they may plan your next vacation. One project might be planning and designing their own zoo. They would get to decide what animals to have and draw up blueprints for the architect. Whichever project we choose for the last few weeks of school, we will have lots of fun exploring math in the real world.

Science News

Unfortunately, our chicks did not hatch.  Something may have gone wrong with the incubator’s temperature.  We are sad, but may have a little surprise next week and get to hold chicks after all.  If we do, pictures will follow.

Do you remember back around Spring Break when we created posters for the Richland County Conservation District?  We received word this week that our school received the “School Spirit Award”!  We had enough participation that our school has been recognized!  Thanks for all of you who signed permission forms for your child to participate.  We didn’t have any place winners for the posters we submitted, but I am still very proud of all of our participation.  You can find a list of winners at the following link:  http://rcgov.us/Government/Departments/Conservation/ConservationDistrict/ConservationDistrictNews/TabId/670/artmid/1228/articleid/969/Default.aspx

We will be reviewing all of our science topics in preparation for the SC PASS testing this next week.  You may want to encourage your child to review their Science notebook so that they can be more prepared.

Language Arts News
In ELA next week, students will read a selection entitled “”The Harmony Zoo Times:  Animal Skyscrapers” which will review several skills along with vocabulary and reading comprehension.  Students will receive a comprehension grade and a skills grade for this selection.  Reading Logs are due on Wednesday.

Social Studies News
Next week we will finish the Civil War and review topics that have been covered this year in social studies to prepare for the SC PASS test next  week.

Fourth Grade News

We have standardized testing this coming week.  SC PASS will be administered on Tuesday and Wednesday (This is Social Studies and Science).  ALL of these tests will be completed using chromebooks in class.

Next Thursday is Arts Day for Bethel-Hanberry.  Students will be exposed to all types of arts throughout the day.  There will be puppeteers, musicians, dancers, etc. for the students to visit.  We will also be doing some type of art project in our classroom.

Next Friday is Super Hero Science Day!  Your child may dress as a superhero.  We will be rotating to all of the fourth grade teachers so that we can do science activities all day long.  It will be a day filled with science learning.
