Math News

We have been multiplying multi-digit numbers this week.  We have learned to use the standard algorithm (which is what we all learned how to do in elementary school) and we also know how to use the expanded algorithm.  We also call this partial-products.  We will test on Topic 6 next Thursday.  We will spend Wednesday reviewing.

Don’t forget that you can access your child’s text book at www.pearsonsuccessnet.com  Their username is their school number id and the password is richland2.

Science News

This week in science, we continued learning about constellations as well as why we have seasons.  We did a Mystery Science lesson where we had to be detectives and use clues in a picture to see if we could guess what season the picture was taken.  Some of the clues were the timestamp on the picture, the length of the shadow, clothes the people were wearing, and the way the trees looked.  We have good detectives in our classroom and they were able to get most of them right.  We will have a science test next Friday before the holidays.  More information will be given to the students next week and they will know exactly what to study.
Language Arts News
This week we focused on specific skills to prepare for the Cold Read test. I saw a lot of improvement with many of the students on this test.  Next week we will read a story that relates to the 13 English Colonies as students prepare for a social studies test on this topic.  There will not be a reading log this week.  However there is a reading log due on Monday, December 14, 2015. Students are expected to turn in this assignment on the due date which is noted on the reading log unless the student is absent on Monday.  Beginning with the reading log due Monday, if it is turned in late, 5 points will be deducted from the grade for each date that it is late.

Social Studies News
In social studies we are finishing up our study of the 13 original English colonies. Following the interactive class activity on the Triangular Trade Route, students will get a study guide to prepare for a social studies test on the 13 colonies on next Thursday.  Notebooks will also collected and checked on Thursday.

Fourth Grade News

Our Brattonsville field trip is this Tuesday, December 15th.  We will leave at 8:00am so your child will need to be at school between 7:30 and 7:45.  If they are normally a bus rider in the morning, please bring them to school that day.  We will be back in time for normal dismissal, so they can ride the bus home if that is their normal mode of transportation.

Don’t forget to bring your lunch if you did not order a school lunch.

We need your child to have headphones or earbuds in class everyday. We use them every day.  They also need them every time we go to the computer lab.  Please make sure your child brings them to school everyday.
