Math News

We finished Unit 1 on place value and rounding this week and tests were sent home on Thursday.  Overall, everyone did a great job and we have already got a great start on our new unit--addition and subtraction.  We should be finishing this unit by the end of next week and take a unit test on Friday.

Don’t forget that the homework packet is given the first day of the week and is due no later than Friday.  Students can also use ALEKS to practice at home if they would like.  They will need to get their username from me before they log in the first time.  This is a great computer program that helps to review all math concepts.

Science News

We continued learning about weather this week and discussed different weather instruments and their uses.  We will be having a vocabulary quiz on the words we have discussed in lessons 1 and 2 next week.  Students will be given the exact words to study on Monday and we will review in class.  Quiz will either be Tuesday or Wednesday--it will be on the assignment board when a decision is made.

Language Arts News
Next Week in ELA next week students will asked to be reporters as the read “Kid Reporters at Work.” In the story, students will learn how to analyze an article to compare and contrast the life of two young people whose works impacted the lives of others. As students learn about these people, they will also keep a journal each day about things that they are doing.  Each day students will be expected to write something about each day.  Students may write at home if they don’t have time to write at school. Students will be expected to give evidence to support their writing.  There will be quiz on this story later in the week.

Social Studies News
Next week in Social Studies we will study Native Americans of the Eastern Woodlands and the Great Basin.  There is a chart in their workbook that will be completed for each of the Native American groups studied.
We will also include a lesson on Native Americans of the Great Basin and then wrap up our unit on Native Americans.
