Math News

We took our topic 13 unit test yesterday.  This will be the first grade of the last nine weeks.  I also gave extra credit points (up to 10 points) for any ALEKS topics that students worked on this week.

When we return from Spring Break, we will continue talking about decimals and work some more on converting decimals and fractions.  We will also be working a lot on word problems this nine weeks and trying to get students to pull out important information. We will also work on reading our problems and making sure we do everything asked in the problem.  You may have noticed on past tests points taken for not following through with all steps in problems--we will work on that.

Please have your child practice their multiplication facts.  There are many games on www.multiplication.com that they would love to play that will help them.

If you still need to join Seesaw, please click here and follow the directions.

Science News

We finished up our Organisms unit this week.  We will begin our last unit when we return on Light and Sound.  There is an assignment in Study Island on Light and Sound that students will work on throughout the month.  I will give a grade on these lessons near the end of April. I will average the two best scores together for one grade.

We had lots of excitement in our incubator this week.  We hatched about 20 chicks! They were a bit noisy at times, but it was very exciting to see them come out of their shells and then to see them “fluff” right on up.  Thanks again to the Yeary family for helping us to have this wonderful experience! WRITING BOOTCAMP AND BOOK CLUBS
TDA practice - Monday and Tuesday “A Trip to the Aquarium” in honor of our field study that will take place Wednesday, April 11, 2018 to Charleston, SC! Students will complete final drafts before end of week and class will learn about and practice friendly and effective peer editing!

Some students may have received letters about Spring Literature Clubs based on current reading levels and MAP scores, work ethic, and the readiness of a good challenge. If your child got this paper and you returned it, THANK YOU! Books will cost less than $5 - most available for only $2.75! (If you didn’t sign and return yet, please send with child to school when we return from break). Students will vote on which books they want to read Monday, April 9th so they can be purchased and ready for use the next week. Students who did not receive this letter will still get to participate in a book club - Ms. Bodrick’s Book Club and we will be doing another novel study - this time on The Cricket in Times Square.

Special shout out the following Lexia Core 5 Completers!
  • Emily Lancaster
  • Thomas Bozard
The following students are almost there! Keep pushing:
Otis Barlow, Daija Caldwell, Liana Adams, Caroline Goff, Jake Gonzales, Emerson Ramsdale, Darius Gatewood-White and Libby Lee

Social Studies News

Upon the return of spring break, we will continue to learn about the makings of our nation’s government and Constitution by which it is outlined. We will review the Articles of Confederation and its apparent weaknesses and and talk about how the U.S. Constitution is different and much stronger. We will learn about the Bill of Rights, the three branches of government, and the Constitution's amendments. Students may use the links in Google Classroom, along with following resources to learn/explore more about this topic.

Field Study to Charleston
Our field trip will be on Wednesday, April 11th.  This will be right after Spring Break.  We will be leaving BHE that morning at 6:30am.  Students need to report to school starting at 6:10am.  Please be on time so that we can leave on time.  We will check in at Liberty Square by 9am and take the boat over to Ft. Sumter.  We do not want to miss our boat. After our tour of Ft. Sumter is over, we will have a picnic lunch on the aquarium lawn.  (Make sure you bring your lunch from home.) We will tour the aquarium until 2:00 and then board the buses to head home. Our arrival time is set to be about 4:15pm.
