Math News

I have been amazed at how well students have been multiplying and working very hard this week on their Holiday Multiplication Checklist.  Many are almost to the point of doing the Bonus Materials which include some higher level thinking activities. I think most will be ready for the bonus materials by Wednesday of next week.  Please continue to encourage them to keep up the pace and do their best. Two of the assignments on the checklist are graded and will be recorded in the gradebook. These must be done at school and students can’t complete the red box items at home.

We will not take a unit test until after winter break.  I will review on Monday and Tuesday when we return and then take a unit test on all multiplication.

Math stations booklets are due Tuesday, December 18th.  Students have been working on these for 3 weeks and several have turned them in already.

Please continue to encourage your child to complete their ALEKS topics each week.  This is a great way to get up to 10 extra credit points each week.

Science News

This week we investigated shadows. Students measured how long our shadow is at the beginning of the day by holding a flashlight level to the desk and shining it at a pencil and then again how long it was at noon when the flashlight was held directly over the pencil.  Students also watched a video about the seasons. We will continue to discuss the seasons and earth’s revolution around the sun next week. We will also start discussing the moon phases that we were able to see while we completed our moon calendars.
